    Abstract

    Many efforts have been done by humanbeing (especially researchers) to cope with the energy crysis, namely by finding alternative fuels. Water is an abundant material which can be used as an alternative fuel. There are many methods which can be performed to utilize water as an engine fuel (petrol engine fuel), such as water electrolysis and water injection (known by Wa-i). In the last methods, water is injected (atomised) into a combustion chamber through its intake manifold. The experiment was performed in a four-stroke petrol engine, single cylinder, at several fuel concentrations, those are pure aquades (A0), aquades containing 10 % alcohol (A10), A20, A30, A40, and A50. From the experiments, it was found that the use of water injection for all fuel concentrations could enhance the engine performance. Use of pure aquadest could increase the brake power of 11,60 %, and reduce the fuel consumption of 14,64 %. Increase of alcohol in aquades did not always increase the brake power, but the fuel consumption was higher for aquadest containing higher alcohol. The highest increase of brake power occurred at use of A30 (26.39 %), while the highest fuel save was at A50 (33.59 %). Key words : water injection, petrol engine performance
