    Abstract

    This report outlines an investigation into the effectiveness of Lampung natural zeolite in enhancing the performance [i.e. brake power (bP) and brake specific fuel consumption (bsfc)] of a two-stroke petrol engine. Engine employed in this test was a two-stroke petrol engine, single cylinder. From the results, it was found that the use of natural zeolite significantly affected bP and bsfc produced, particularly at high engine speeds. In general, higher dosage of zeolite used, higher bP and lower bsfc produced. Even for using 30 grams zeolite, it led to an increase of bP of the engine for about 0.1002 kW (7.59 %) at low load, and 0.0948 kW (2.53 %) at high load (occurred at 3500 rpm). A reduction of bsfc at low load was about 0.0918 kg/ kWh (8.36 %), and 0.0478 kg/kWh (9.97 %) at high load.The highest increase of bP at low load was 0.1814 kW (13.74 %) for use of 150 grams zeolite, and it was 0.2414 kW (6.44 %) at high load for use of 200 grams zeolite. Meanwhile, the highest reduction of bsfc at low load was 0.1931 kg/kWh (17.58 %) for use of 200 grams zeolite, and it was 0.0967 kg/kWh (20.17 %) at high load for use of 150 grams.
